Just like lipstick, eyeshadow and eyeliner, there is no one shade of blush that will look best on you. You'll often want to dress your face for the occasion, using bolder shades for evening wear, and more subdued colours during the day. However, there are a few rules of thumb that will help you stay in a complimentary colour spectrum for your skin tone, whatever the occasion.

If you have fairer skin, you'll want to choose lighter shades, steering clear of dark colours that will make you appear more comical than captivating. Opt for pale pinks for a winning look every time. For those of us with medium skin tones (and most people fall into this category), aim for vibrant peach colours and rose pinks. For those with darker skin, you can have fun. Your ideal colours for blushes and contours range from dark pink, rich reds, purples and deep oranges.

To apply your blush, use a round blush brush to run it along the apples (tops) of your cheeks, right back to your temple. Your bronzer should be applied with an angled brush in the hollows of your cheekbones, underneath the blush (just make the 'duck face' to see where that is!). Make sure you sweep it up, all the way to your hairline. Finally, your highlighter goes on the tops of your cheekbones, below your eyes. It can be applied with a slim, tapered brush. By contouring in this way, you’ve accented the natural highs and lows of your face, adding vigour to your existing depth and dimension.

It’s a good look. Trust us.
